Liberal Revolution (Ecuador)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Liberal Revolution is a stage in the history of Ecuador that began when Eloy Alfaro came to power in Guayaquil in 1895 . It is characterized by the endeavor to regain the sovereignty of the state in economic and political terms, to enforce a comprehensive secularism and to strengthen the position of the disadvantaged classes, especially in rural regions. Important projects were the expansion of the infrastructure, especially the railroad, and the country's educational institutions. The Liberal Revolution is important today as a point of contact for a large number of political movements in Ecuador, above all Alianza PAÍS .
