Marc Wright
Marc Wright (actually Marcus Snowell Wright ; born April 21, 1890 in Chicago , † August 5, 1975 in Reading , Massachusetts ) was an American pole vaulter .
In the elimination battle of the US eastern states for the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912, he crossed 4.02 m on June 8, 1912. He was not only the first person to conquer the four meters, but also the first official world record holder.
In Stockholm, however, he had to admit defeat to his compatriot Harry Babcock , who won with 3.95 m. Marc Wright shared the silver medal with a skipped 3.85 m with Frank Nelson , who also represented the USA.
