Juliane von Hessen-Philippsthal
Landgravine Juliane Wilhelmine Luise von Hessen-Philippsthal (born June 8, 1761 in Zütphen , † November 9, 1799 in Bückeburg ) from the House of Hesse was regent of Schaumburg-Lippe from 1787 to 1799 .
Life
Juliane was a daughter of Landgrave Wilhelm von Hessen-Philippsthal (1726–1810) and his wife Landgravine Ulrike Eleonore von Hessen-Philippsthal-Barchfeld (1732–1795). Partly raised in Herzogenbusch , where her father served as a Dutch general, she received a German upbringing.
On October 10, 1780, she married Count Philipp II. Ernst von Schaumburg-Lippe in Philippsthal . Philipp Ernst, 57 years old at the time of the marriage and a widower, died after seven years of marriage. Together with Count Johann Ludwig von Wallmoden-Gimborn, Juliane took over the reign of their underage son Georg Wilhelm . Immediately afterwards, Landgrave Wilhelm von Hessen-Kassel had Schaumburg-Lippe militarily occupied as a fallen fiefdom . By switching on the Reichshofrat and with support from Hanover and Prussia, Juliane achieved the rapid withdrawal of Wilhelm's troops.
Juliane's government is said to be extraordinarily beneficial. She carried out far-reaching reforms in the economy and the school system, restricted the keeping of the court, continued the tolerant Jewish policy of her father-in-law and was able to implement tax cuts. She appointed Bernhard Christoph Faust as a personal physician and provided him with significant support in introducing the smallpox vaccination .
Juliane had Hagenburg Castle redesigned and is considered the founder of the Eilsen spa .
She died after a bad cold and was buried in a mausoleum in the Schaumburg Forest . Count Wallmoden-Gimborn continued the custodial government for their son.
Your estate is located as part of the Schaumburg-Lippische Hausarchiv in the state archive in Bückeburg .
