It was France's first pair skating World Cup medal since Andrée and Pierre Brunet won the title in 1932 . Abitbol and Bernadis finished their only Olympic Games in Nagano in 1998 in sixth place. They had to cancel the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City due to a tear in Abitbol's Achilles tendon. In 2003 they ended their careers.

Autobiography

In her biographical book Un si long silence , published in January 2020, Abitbol reveals "that her coach at the time raped her at the age of 15 ". As a result, it became public that other female athletes had also become victims of the coach and that the Ice Sports Association had not done anything about it, although the attacks had been reported to those responsible by "numerous" victims. Preliminary investigations have been initiated by the public prosecutor. At the beginning of February 2020 Didier Gailhaguet, the long-time French figure skating president, against whom there were no allegations of abuse himself, resigned from his position. Gilles Beyer , the trainer accused by Abitbol, has admitted his wrongdoing in a statement and apologized to Sarah Abitbol.
