Yvonne Hubert

Yvonne Hubert (born May 28, 1895 in Mouscron , Belgium , † June 8, 1988 in Montreal ) was a Canadian music teacher and pianist.

Life

Hubert attended the Conservatory of Lille and studied at the Conservatoire de Paris from 1906 with Marguerite Long and from 1908 piano with Alfred Cortot , as well as music theory with Maurice Emmanuel and chamber music with Camille Chevillard . Supported by Gabriel Fauré , she started a career as a solo pianist, chamber musician and accompanist for her brother Marcel Hubert in France, Belgium, Canada and the USA.

In 1926 she settled in Montreal, where she founded the École de piano Alfred-Cortot in 1929 . From 1945 to 1970 she taught at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec , where Michel Dussault , Serge Garant , Gilles Manny , William Stevens , Natalie Pépin , Janina Fialkowska and Ronald Turini were among her students. She also taught at the École Vincent-d'Indy (1952–1979) and other institutions and prepared pianists such as Henri Brassard , Réjean Coallier , Marc Durand , Janina Fialkowska, Marc-André Hamelin , Claude Labelle , André Laplante , Louis Lortie and William Compete in national and international competitions.

Hubert was awarded the Canadian Music Council Medal and an honorary diploma from the Canadian Conference of the Arts in 1979 and received the Prix ​​de musique Calixa-Lavallée in 1987 .
