Maurice Emmanuel

Marie François Maurice Emmanuel (born May 2, 1862 in Bar-sur-Aube , † December 14, 1938 in Paris ) was a French musicologist, music teacher and composer.

Life

Maurice Emmanuel studied at the Paris Conservatory with Augustin Savard , Théodore Dubois (harmony), Léo Delibes (composition) and Louis-Albert Bourgault-Ducoudray (music history). He also attended lectures in classical philology and art history at the Sorbonne . From 1904 to 1907 he was Kapellmeister at Ste Clotilde, after which he worked as a teacher of music history at the Conservatory until 1936.

Emmanuel composed three operas , two symphonies and a symphonic poem, a suite française , an overture , chamber music and vocal works.
