Augustin Savard
Marie Emmanuel Augustin Savard (born May 15, 1861 in Paris , † December 6, 1942 in Lyon ) was a French composer and music teacher.
The son of Marie-Gabriel-Augustin Savard studied at the Paris Conservatory with Jules Massenet , Antoine Taudou and Émile Durand . In 1886 he won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome with the cantata La Vision de Saul . After his return from Rome he was conductor at the Paris Opera in the season 1892-1893 . From 1902 until his retirement in 1921 he directed the Conservatory of Lyon.
He composed a. a. the opera La Forêt , which premiered at the Paris Opera in 1910, an overture to the drama King Lear , a poème for voice and orchestra and various chamber music works.
