Niklaus Gerber
Niklaus Gerber (born June 8, 1850 in Thun ; † February 9, 1914 in Zurich ) was a Swiss chemist.
Niklaus Gerber studied chemistry in Bern and Zurich. After a stay abroad in the USA, in 1892 he developed acid butyrometry , a rapid method for determining the fat content in dairy products , and the butyrometer . Along with Rudolf Schatzmann, he was one of the great pioneers in the Swiss dairy industry.
In 1903 he founded the Dr. N. Gerber's Acidbutyrometrie Co.m.bH Leipzig and Zurich . This company still exists today under the name Gerber Instruments AG in Effretikon , Switzerland.
