Jens-Paul Wollenberg (born January 18, 1952 in Speyer ) is a singer , poet and lecturer living in Leipzig .

When he was three years old, he moved to Gernrode with his mother in 1955 and to Quedlinburg in 1959 . He learned to cook and worked in the restaurant business, later as a prop master in the theater and as a postman.

Since the 1970s he belonged to various music groups, all of which were banned by the GDR authorities. Stations of his artistic career were the groups Vin rouge (from 1976), Quitilinga (1978), Gevattern-Kombo (1981) and other ensembles under constantly changing names in order to confuse the GDR cultural officials. Since 1990 he has lived in Leipzig with his partner, the painter and avowed street musician Uta Pilling . With watercolors and drawings he had several exhibitions during the time of the fall of the Wall. He was several times a participant in the GDR open chanson days in the Michaelsstein monastery and in the illegal songwriters' meeting Ringelfolk in the Ringelnatzklause Wurzen and belongs to the Leipzig song scene .

After reunification he founded the jazz-rock-folk band Wahdi el Ahana (1990) and the band Pojechaly (1993). In 1996 he initiated the "Ostwind" concert series at naTo , in which Eastern European music culture is presented. He has been working with the Leipzig multi-instrumentalist Ingeborg Freytag (“Freytag & Wollenberg”, 2005) since 1990, with the Leipzig Folksessionband (1998), the Funkner Quartet (1998) and the group Der Singende Tresen (2003). In scenic readings, he recites texts by Kafka , Schiller and others. In 2003 his first book, The Story of the Lonely Self, was published .

His new project ex.ces combines the poetry of François Villon and Louis Aragon with the music of the world music jazz rock band chelesta .

“The artist strings small, apocalyptic nightmare stories into a morbid chain of gloomy, largely rhymed treatises full of death and corruption, love, sin, ridicule and decay. Quite a few lines by the Wollenberg / Uta Pilling team of authors reveal an almost insurmountable disgust for the world, if almost every deliberate and pathetic gesture were not characterized by an unmistakable pleasure in play, pleasure in life, pleasure in this world.
