Kai Engelke (born April 1, 1946 in Göttingen ) is a German writer , music journalist , reciter and songwriter .

Life

Kai Engelke is the son of the journalist and writer Jooschen Engelke (1918–1962) and the painter Robin Mück-Engelke (1909–2000).

Grown up in Hildesheim, Berlin and Wyk auf Föhr, he spent his school days a. a. at the boarding school in Marburg / Lahn, graduated from high school in Gießen , began an editorial traineeship at dpa in Frankfurt am Main and completed his pedagogy studies in Hildesheim . He then worked as a freelancer for the Hildesheimer Presse, taz Bremen and Funk (NDR Hannover, Radio Bremen) and is featured in over 100 anthologies.

From 1975 to 2011 Kai Engelke worked as a teacher in Esterwegen / Emsland. From 1981 to 1988 he was the initiator of the Surwolder Literature Talks, later artistic director of the Lower Saxony / Bremen State Literature Days 2001 and 2007; artistic director and moderator of the Meppen Crime Days since 2009; Moderator of the International Song Festival at Waldeck Castle since 2011; Juror for the “best songs list” and the “German Record Critics' Prize” as well as a long-time editorial assistant at the music magazine for folk, lied and world music Folker .

Engelke was a member of the Association of German Writers (VS) from 1978 to 2014, at times also a member of the state board, and is a member of the Syndikat - authors' group of German-language crime literature.

Kai Engelke is married to Ulrike Engelke and has five children.
