August Blumensaat (born January 15, 1911 in Gelsenkirchen , † November 30, 1989 in Essen ) was a German long-distance runner .

Life

Blumensaat was one of the best German marathon runners in the 1950s . At the German Championships he was able to place eight times in the top eight from 1951 to 1960. In 1954 and 1955 he was German runner-up. In 1955 and 1957 he was German team champion with TUSEM Essen .

At the European Championships in 1954 , he finished 18th in 2: 42: 32.2 h. His personal best of 2: 27: 41.0 h, set on October 16, 1955 in Altenrath, was a German record at the time.

Blumensaat was the initiator of the Tusem Marathon (later Rund um den Baldeneysee ), which he also won at the third edition in 1965.

August Blumensaat remained active as a runner into old age. He ran his last marathon in 1980.

Every year at the end of November, the “August Flower Seed Memorial Run” takes place in Essen.
