Karlheinz Arens

Karlheinz Arens (born January 15, 1900 in Essen , † July 14, 1959 in Berlin ) was a German writer and dramaturge. He became known through publications in the field of youth literature as well as through stories in periodical book series.

life and work

Karlheinz Arens was born as the son of Medical Councilor Dr. med. Heinrich Arens was born in Essen. After attending the Burggymnasium, he joined the 1st Warmian Infantry Regiment 150 as a volunteer warrior in the spring of 1918. Arens took part in the trench warfare of Verdun when he was eighteen. After the November revolt of 1918 he was a free corps fighter in Berlin, East Prussia and in the Ruhr area.

Afterwards Karlheinz Arens worked as an editorial volunteer and editor at an art magazine. Years later he became an acting, directing and dramaturgy trainee at the United City Theaters in Bochum and Duisburg and a dramaturge at West German city theaters. In the Second World War Arens was a war correspondent on the submarine 586. After the war Karlheinz Arens worked as a freelance writer in Berlin.
