Yang Yong-eun (born January 15, 1972 in Jeju-do , South Korea ) is a South Korean professional golfer .
Yang turned to golf at the age of 19 and began his career as a professional golfer five years later - in 1996. He played mainly on the Japan Golf Tour (four wins so far) and also on the Asian Tour . In 2006 he won the Korea Open and thus qualified for the highly endowed HSBC Champions Tournament in November 2006 in Shanghai , organized jointly by the European Tour and the Asian Tour . Yang won this tournament, which opened the 2007 season, against a very strong field (including Tiger Woods , Jim Furyk and all the tournament winners of the 2006 European Tour season). He was thus automatically eligible to start this major European tournament series.
The greatest success of his career he achieved in August 2009 when he won the PGA Championship , where he was able to defeat Tiger Woods, who was leading after three rounds with two strokes, by three strokes. It was the first major win for an Asian golfer.
