The PGA Championship is organized by the PGA of America as part of the PGA TOUR and is one of the four major golf tournaments. It was first played in 1916 at Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville , New York . It was won by the Englishman Jim Barnes , who lives in America . The tournament has been taking place in May on various courses in the USA since 2019 . Until 1958 the tournament was played as a match game , since then as a stroke game over four rounds.

Other major golf tournaments are the US Open , The Open Championship and the US Masters .
