David Wayne Toms (born January 4, 1967 in Monroe , Louisiana ) is an American professional golfer of the PGA TOUR Champions . He belongs to the circle of major winners.
Career
As a teenager, he won the Junior World Golf Championships in 1984 , attended Louisiana State University, and became a professional golfer in 1989 .
After two wins on the second-ranked Buy.com Tour , Toms won his first title on the big PGA TOUR in 1997 , where he celebrated 13 tournament victories. His most important achievement was winning a major , the 2001 PGA Championship .
He was used three times in the Ryder Cup and the Presidents Cup , and Toms played once for his country in the World Cup .
He is married to his wife Sonya, has two children, and lives in Shreveport , Louisiana . David Toms has been a golf course designer with growing success since 2003 . His David Toms Foundation helps underprivileged children.
