The 35th Ryder Cup was held September 14-19, 2004 at the Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Township , Michigan . Europe emerged as the winner.

The Oakland Hills Club was opened in 1918 and has hosted several major tournaments. Since 1951 (US Open victory by Ben Hogan ) the course has been nicknamed The Monster . The Ryder Cup is played on the South Course (par 70), which is characterized by extremely difficult greens.
