Career

After attending the University of Florida , he became a professional golfer in 1990 . He won the Canadian Tour money list in 1992 and was ninth in the Nike Tour annual rankings the following year, with DiMarco qualifying for the PGA TOUR . But he could not assert himself there and went back to the Nike Tour, where he recorded his first tournament victory in 1997.

He won his first title on the PGA TOUR in 2001 at the SEI Pennsylvania Classic . This was followed by two more wins and DiMarco was regularly in the top 20 of the Money List until 2004 . He shone in two major championships , the PGA Championship 2004 and the Masters 2005, where he could only be defeated in the jump-off by Vijay Singh and Tiger Woods . At the Open Championship in July 2006, he again finished second, behind Tiger Woods. In the golf world rankings he was among the top 20 for years.

So far, DiMarco has played twice in Team USA at the Presidents Cup and at the Ryder Cup . At the Presidents Cup 2005 he provided the winning putt, at the Ryder Cup debacle of the US in 2004 DiMarco was - with 2½ out of 4 possible points - the best of his team.

His trademark is the idiosyncratic claw grip when putting , which has served him very well since 1995.

DiMarco is married to his wife Amy. They have three children and live in Orlando, Florida. His nephew Patrick DiMarco is an American football player in the NFL .
