Thomas Levet (born September 5, 1968 in Paris ) is a French professional golfer .

He comes from a very sporty family. His father, a doctor, was previously a top hockey and tennis player, his mother played volleyball in the French premier league, and his grandfather was a professional cyclist.

Career

Levet became a professional golfer in 1988 , won the French PGA Championship that same year , but had to wait a decade for his first win on the European Tour . In 1998 he received an invitation to the Cannes Open , which Levet used and was the first Frenchman to win a tour event on home soil again in almost 20 years. The second victory followed in 2001 and in the following year he almost succeeded in making the big hit. At the Open Championship 2002 in Muirfield, Levet was only defeated in the jump-off against Ernie Els . In the 2003 season he played partly on the PGA TOUR in the USA, but could not succeed there. Levet therefore completely returned to the European tournament series in 2004 and won the prestigious Scottish Open in Loch Lomond , which also earned him a fixed starting place at the subsequent Open Championship in Royal Troon . Again he was able to put himself in the limelight and achieved the excellent 5th place. Levet was also fifth on the money list that season and was called up to join the 2004 team that celebrated the highest ever win. This gave him the right to play the PGA TOUR again, which he held until 2006.

Levet also played twice in the continental European selection at the Seve Trophy in 2002 and 2005, and for his country three times in the Dunhill Cup and eight times in the World Cup .

He has been married to wife Caroline since 1998, has three children and currently resides in Palm Beach Gardens , Florida .
