Seve Trophy

The Seve Trophy was a team competition for golf professionals, which, following the example of the Ryder Cup, is held every 2 years between golfers from Great Britain & Ireland and those from continental Europe. The initiative for this event came from the five-time Majors winner Seve Ballesteros .

This trophy has only been played since 2000 and, in contrast to the Ryder Cup , you had to lure the participants with prize money.

Due to a sponsorship contract with the French media group Vivendi the competition took place under the name between 2009 and 2011. The Vivendi Trophy with Severiano Ballesteros BEZW. Vivendi Seve Trophy held. The last event (2013) took place under the name Seve Trophy by Golf + .

The comparison match took place in September. Initially, the Seve Trophy was held in even years, after changing the calendar for the Ryder Cup , it took place in odd years.

Although the event was a recognized special event of the European Tour Series, the prize money achieved did not count towards the European Tour Order of Merit money list .
