Davis Milton Love III (born April 13, 1964 in Charlotte , North Carolina ) is one of the most popular American professional golfers on the PGA TOUR . He belongs to the circle of major winners.

Career

He was introduced to the game of golf by his father, Davis Love II, a nationally recognized golf instructor . After attending the University of North Carolina , Love III became a professional golfer in 1985 .

He quickly established himself on the PGA TOUR and won his first tournament in 1987. To date, he has recorded a total of 19 victories in this major tournament series, including his only major win, the PGA Championship in 1997, and the prestigious Players Championship in 1992 and 2003. Love is on the career money list - with income of nearly $ 36 million - in fifth place. In the golf world rankings he was among the top 10 for many years.

Love III won the World Cup for the USA four times in a row with his friend and partner Fred Couples from 1992 to 1995 . In the Ryder Cup he was from 1993 to 2004, in the Presidents Cup from 1994 to 2005, without interruption in the American team. In 2012 and 2016 he led the US team at the Ryder Cup as a non-playing captain.

Davis Love III is married to his wife Robin and has two children. The family has lived in St. Simons Island , Georgia , since the early 1990s . Since 1994 he has been running Love Golf Design with his younger brother Mark, who is also his caddy . The company designs golf courses, primarily in the southeastern United States.
