The World Golf Hall of Fame in Florida

The World Golf Hall of Fame is the golfing hall of fame . Located in St. Augustine , Florida , unlike most other sports fame, it honors celebrities of both sexes. A consortium of 26 golf organizations from around the world is responsible for monitoring.

The museum houses a permanent exhibition that not only deals with the excellent golfers, but also with the history of this sport. There are also changing special exhibitions.

history

The World Golf Hall of Fame was originally located in Pinehurst , North Carolina and was run by the owners of the Pinehurst Resort . It opened in September 1974 and the Hall of Fame consisted of 13 members. In 1983 the PGA of America took over the management and from 1986 the World Golf Hall of Fame was in the sole ownership of the PGA.

Two more halls of fame were incorporated - that of the PGA of America (founded in 1940) was incorporated in the 1980s, while that of the women's organization LPGA (founded in 1951 as the Hall of Fame of Women's Golf ) was incorporated in 1998.

In 1994 the global golf industry established a charitable foundation, the World Golf Foundation , to promote golf and expand the Hall of Fame. Construction began in St. Augustine in 1996 and the new Hall of Fame was opened on May 19, 1998.
