Career

After attending the University of Colorado , where he was honored several times as a football player, Irwin became a professional golfer in 1968 .

On the PGA Tour he recorded a total of 20 tournament victories between 1971 and 1994, including three times the US Open in 1974, 1979 and 1990. In addition, there were countless successes at unofficial events in the USA and major tournaments worldwide.

After reaching the age of 50, Irwin entered the Senior PGA Tour , later the Champions Tour , and was not only able to continue his successful streak, but even increase it. He has won 45 tournaments so far, including seven senior majors, and is way at the top of the all-time ranking of this tournament series with around $ 27 million in prize money (as of November 2016).
