Geoff Ogilvy (born June 11, 1977 in Adelaide ) is an Australian professional golfer . He belongs to the circle of major winners.
Career
After a successful amateur career, during which he won the German Amateur Open Championship in 1996 , Ogilvy became a professional golfer in May 1998. He qualified through the Tour School for the European Tour , played there in 1999 and 2000, and reached positions 65 and 48 in the money list. In 2001 Ogilvy turned to the North American PGA Tour and has been in the top 100 every season since. In 2005 he won his first event in this series, the Chrysler Classic of Tucson . In February of the following year he won the highly endowed WGC Accenture Match Play Championship , where he defeated the American Davis Love III in the final . Ogilvy succeeded in winning the US Open in June , making him the first Australian since Steve Elkington (1995) to win a major again. With this success he temporarily moved into the top 10 of the golf world rankings . After further victories and the renewed win of the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship , Olgivy was able to achieve his best world rankings in early March 2009 with 4th place.
Geoff Ogilvy is married to his wife Juli. The couple have a daughter and live in Scottsdale , Arizona . He is a distant relative of Sir Angus Ogilvy , a member of the British royal family.
