Raymond "Ray" Floyd (born September 4, 1942 in Fort Bragg , North Carolina ) is a former American professional golfer of the PGA Tour and the Champions Tour .

Career

He attended the University of North Carolina and became a professional in 1961 . Floyd quickly established himself on the PGA Tour and landed his first victory in 1963. He has won a total of 22 times, with his last success in 1992 at the age of 49 making him one of the oldest winners of a PGA Tour event.

Ray Floyd won four major championships, the PGA Championships in 1969 and 1982, the Masters in 1976 and the US Open in 1986. He is one of the oldest players to ever win a major . In 1990 he only missed a historic victory in the Masters in the jump-off against Nick Faldo.

After reaching the age limit for the Senior PGA Tour (forerunner of the Champions Tour ), Floyd continued his successful streak there and recorded 14 wins between 1992 and 2000, including four Senior Majors and two Senior Tour Championships .

In early 2010, Floyd announced his retirement from professional tournament golf. In the course of his career he had won 66 tournaments.
