Charl Adriaan Schwartzel (born August 31, 1984 in Johannesburg ) is a South African professional golfer who plays on both the European Tour and the South African Sunshine Tour .

Career

After his amateur career in the junior sector, he became a professional golfer at the age of 18 and qualified for the European Tour in the same year . Since Dale Hayes he was the second youngest South African golfer on this tournament series. In the seasons 2003 and 2004 he earned enough prize money to secure his eligibility to play. At the end of 2004 he won the Dunhill Championship , one of the leading tournaments in South Africa, which was part of both the European Tour in the 2005 season and the Sunshine Tour in the 2004/2005 season. At the same time Schwartzel won the money list of the South African tournament series and reached 52nd place in the European Tour Order of Merit 2005. He also won the Sunshine Tour rating in 2005/2006 and with his victory at the Vodacom Tour Championship , Schwartzel climbed into the top 100 of the golf world rankings for the first time . In 2006 Schwartzel achieved his best position in the European money list with 18th place and then he won the overall ranking of the Sunshine Tour for the third time in a row. In 2010 he finished eighth in the Race to Dubai and won the annual ranking of the Sunshine Tour for the fourth time.

By far the greatest success of his career Schwartzel celebrated with the victory at The Masters 2011.
