Zach Johnson (born February 24, 1976 in Iowa City , Iowa ) is an American professional golfer of the PGA TOUR . He belongs to the circle of major winners.

Career

He grew up in Cedar Rapids , Iowa and developed his golf game at Elmcrest Country Club . After attending Drake University , Johnson became a professional golfer in 1998 .

He started at regional tournament series of the third level, such as the Prairie Golf Tour and the NGA Hooters Tour , with a total of seven wins. He then played the second-ranked Nationwide Tour , where Johnson was twice successful and qualified for the big PGA TOUR . In his first season (2004) he succeeded in winning the title at the BellSouth Classic and thanks to numerous top placings he was temporarily promoted to the top 50 of the golf world rankings . This ranking enabled Johnson to participate in the majors and the high-value events of the World Golf Championships tournament series. He was also part of the US Ryder Cup team in 2006 . In April 2007 Johnson won the Masters in Augusta , one of the four major tournaments. In July 2015 he won the Open Championship , his second major , at the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews .

Johnson has been married to his wife Kim since 2003 and has three children, daughter Abby Jane and sons Will and Wyatt.
