life and career

The Georgia Tech graduate won the US Amateur Championship in 1997 and was best amateur in both Masters and US Open in 1998 . Kuchar became a professional golfer in 2000, initially playing on the Nationwide Tour . After qualifying for the PGA Tour , he won his first tournament, the Honda Classic , in 2002 . In 2006 he had to return to the Nationwide Tour, but earned his eligibility for the PGA Tour again by a tenth place in the season standings. More tournament victories followed and at the end of the 2010 season he was the leader of the money list and was awarded the Vardon Trophy . Kuchar celebrated his most valuable success to date in May 2012 when he won the Players Championship .

Kuchar played in the US team at the 2010 Ryder Cup and Ryder Cup 2012 . With playing partner Gary Woodland he won the World Cup for the USA in November 2011 . In 2016 he won the bronze medal at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro .

Kuchar is married and has two sons.

Style of play

Matt Kuchar is average in terms of the distance and placement of his drives and the quality of the putts, but his play with irons and wedges is strong .

He has a special feature in his pre-shot routine: Before the hit, he places the club head on the ground behind the ball, as usual, but then “tilts” the whole body slightly backwards so that the club head is in in the air, and then strikes back to strike. His putting technique and the associated material is also very noticeable: Kuchar uses a long putter, which he does not anchor to the stomach or sternum, but which he places on his left forearm with an otherwise conventional grip. This requires a very strong offset of the putter shaft at the lower end in order to bring the club face at the correct angle to the ball.
