PGA Tour of Australasia
The PGA Tour of Australasia is an Australian-based tournament series in professional golf . It is one of the six leading tournament series of the International Federation of PGA Tours , on the basis of which the golf world ranking is calculated.
Most of the participants on this tour are naturally Australians, New Zealand has a smaller contingent , but professional golfers from many other countries are also at the start. However, the best Australasian players play most of the time on the PGA TOUR and the European Tour and only return to their home region for two or three events, some not at all. Therefore, the Australasian tour is more of a talent base for these two major tournament series.
The most important tournaments include the Australian Open , the Australian PGA Championship , the Australian Masters and the New Zealand Open . Notable Australian professional golfers who started their careers on this tour include Steve Elkington and Adam Scott .
Until 2009 the PGA Tour of Australasia carried out a second series of tournaments, named after the golfer Norman von Nida , the Von Nida Tour , consisting of about ten events, each with a prize money of about 100,000 Austral. $ were equipped.
The tour takes place in the Australian summer, i.e. over the turn of the year. The money ranking, however, refers to the calendar year.
