Michael Richard Weir , CM , O.Ont (born May 12, 1970 in Sarnia, Ontario , Canada ) is a Canadian professional golfer of the North American PGA TOUR .

Starting his professional career in 1992 , Weir was the first Canadian in 45 years to win a PGA Tour event in his home country in 1999 . His most successful year so far came in 2003, when he won the Masters in Augusta and two other tournament victories, as well as a third place in another major , the US Open .

Mike Weir is actually right-handed - he only plays golf left-handed, as does his professional colleague Phil Mickelson . He currently lives in the United States ( Draper , Utah ) with his wife Bricia and their two daughters .
