James Frederick Webb Simpson (born August 8, 1985 in Raleigh , North Carolina ) is an American professional golfer of the PGA TOUR .

After a successful amateur career, Simpson became a professional golfer in June 2008 and initially played on an invitation basis on the PGA Tour and the second-ranked Nationwide Tour , where he was able to achieve two second places. Through the Qualifying School he was able to acquire the starting authorization for the PGA Tour from 2009 and with good results secure the continuation.

In 2011 Simpson won two tournaments, finished the season in second place in the FedEx Cup and played in the winning selection of the USA in the Presidents Cup . In 2013 he was also a member of the successful US selection at the Presidents Cup.

On June 17, 2012, he won the US Open at the Olympic Club in San Francisco and temporarily moved up to fifth place in the golf world rankings .
