Walker Cup
The Walker Cup is the most traditional team competition in amateur golf . The trophy was named in 1922 after the businessman and President of the USGA George Herbert Walker (the grandfather of the later US President George HW Bush and great-grandfather of the US President George W. Bush ). The Walker Cup Match - that's the official name - is played every odd year between the best amateurs from the United Kingdom and Ireland and the United States . The venue changes back and forth between the two regions and the format is also very similar to its professional counterpart, the Ryder Cup .
In the overall standings, the United States are clearly in the lead with 35: 9 wins in a draw, but the British-Irish selection has won 6 of the last 11 matches.
