Career

After a successful amateur career on the golf team at Coastal Carolina University , Johnson became a professional golfer in 2007 and qualified for the PGA Tour in 2008. In October 2008 he won his first tournament, the Turning Stone Resort Championship . After further victories in 2009 and 2010, Johnson became a member of the US team in the 2010 Ryder Cup and finished the 2010 season in fifth place in the FedEx Cup . In the 2011 season he improved to fourth place.

In August 2014, he resigned from professional golf for six months due to renewed substance abuse. In March 2015, shortly after his return, he won the WGC Cadillac Championship, one of the busiest tournaments of the year.

After narrowly missing out on victory in various major tournaments, he was able to achieve the greatest success of his career by winning the US Open in 2016 and after winning the Genesis Open in February 2017, he climbed to the top of the golf world rankings for the first time .

The game

Johnson is known for his long punches. In 2013 he was the second longest PGA Tour golfer with the driver averaging over 305 yards. A special feature of his swing is the position of his left wrist, which curves sharply downwards at the top of his swing. In recent years he has become one of the most athletic players on the PGA Tour.
