Jason Day (born November 12, 1987 in Beaudesert , Queensland ) is an Australian professional golfer . Day was born to an Australian father and Filipino mother. He is married and lives in Westerville , Ohio .
Amateur career
He achieved his first major success in 2000 when he won the Australian Junior Masters at the age of 13. As a result, he was able to finish a season as first place in the Australian Junior Order of Merit twice.
At the Queensland Open, he was seventh and best amateur.
In the United States, he won the 2004 Callaway World Junior Championship in the Boys' Age 15-17 class and finished runner-up in the 2005 Porter Cup.
Professional career
Day switched to the professional camp in July 2006 and began participating in tournaments on the PGA Tour . He made the cut in five of his first six tournaments. However, he failed to qualify for the 2007 PGA Tour and he then played in the Nationwide Tour .
With his victory at the Legend Financial Group Classic 2007 he became the youngest golfer to win an event in one of the three PGA tournament series.
With the final 5th place on the Nationwide Tour money list, he secured the PGA Tour Card for 2008.
In 2010 he won the HP Byron Nelson Championship and became the youngest Australian to win a tournament on the PGA Tour.
In 2011 he finished 2nd in his first appearance at the Masters and achieved the best result of a debutant with 12 under par. And also at the next major tournament, the US Open , he reached 2nd place, which temporarily pushed him into the top ten in the world rankings .
In 2013, Day won the ISPS Handa World Cup of Golf both individually and in Team Australia with Adam Scott .
In February 2014, Day improved to fourth place in the world rankings by winning the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship .
After several successes on the PGA Tour in 2015, including a major success at the PGA Championship , he temporarily reached number 1 in the golf world rankings, which he was able to recapture after winning the WGC-Dell Match Play Championship at the end of March 2016. At the Players Championship he won by four strokes ahead of the American Kevin Chappell . On the first day he managed a lap of 63, with which he set the course record.
