Japan Golf Tour
The Japan Golf Tour is one of the most important tournament series in professional golf . Since 1999 this series has been carried out by the JGTO (Japanese Golf Tour Organization), which was founded in the same year. The tour has the third highest level of prize money, after the North American PGA TOUR and the European PGA European Tour .
Official events of this tour count towards the golf world ranking and tour members can also qualify for the majors if they are successful . Most of the leading players on the Japan Golf Tour are naturally Japanese, but professional golfers from many other countries also work there.
Since the early 1990s , however, the Japan Golf Tour has not been able to keep up with the rapid increases in prize money in the two leading tournament series.
The JGTO also organizes a second level tournament series, the Japan Challenge Tour , comparable to the North American Nationwide Tour and the European Challenge Tour . It has been held since 1999.
