Shingo Katayama ( Japanese 片 山 晋 呉 , Katayama Shingo ; born January 31, 1973 in Chikusei , Ibaraki Prefecture , Japan ) is a Japanese professional golfer on the Japan Golf Tour .

He became a professional golfer in 1995 and has been playing the Japan Golf Tour regularly since 1997 , where he won the money list in 2000, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2008, has celebrated 26 tournament victories so far, and earned over 1.4 billion yen in prize money.

Katayama has also participated in several majors and events in the world's most prestigious World Golf Championships tournament series. His best results were a fourth place each at the PGA Championship in 2001 and at the Masters in 2009. Katayama has reached the top 50 in the golf world rankings.

Because of his eye-catching cowboy hat, which he always wears at his tournament appearances, he is called "Cowboy Shingo".
