Hohenstein Castle in Carinthia
The Hohenstein Castle is located on a hill above the Glantal in the Austrian town of Liebenfels .
history
The castle was built in 1537 under Herrmann Kulmer and expanded around 1589 under Balthasar Kulmer. The complex is cross-shaped and symmetrical, the longer east-west wing is crossed by a north-south wing in the middle. At the ends of the former, semicircular towers protrude. The southwest corner is formed into a courtyard by a two-storey arbor and a tower projecting southwards.
The stone portal dates from the year of construction in 1589, the gates and windows of the main building are late Gothic . In the south central wing there is a coupled Renaissance window .
The castle is privately owned and is not open to the public.
