Tour Championship (Golf)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tour Championship (official spelling: THE TOUR Championship ) is the final tournament of the FedEx Cup as part of the professional North American golf tournament series PGA TOUR . With $ 9 million total prize money in 2018, it is one of the most highly endowed professional golf tournaments in the world.

history

First held in 1987, the event was called the Nabisco Championship until 1990 after its sponsor . From 1997 the tournament was held alternately at the Champions Golf Club in Houston , Texas and the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta . The latter has been the permanent venue since 2004. Until 2006, the date was the beginning of November, one week after the Volvo Masters of the PGA European Tour , in order to offer players qualified for both tournaments the opportunity to exercise their right to play. This competition marked the end of the PGA Tour's official tournament calendar.

From 2007, however, there were significant changes. The date has been postponed to mid-September and the Tour Championship will conclude the four-tournament playoff called "Chase for the FedEx Cup". The PGA Tour then goes into the fall series (autumn season) and will end at the beginning of November with seven events called “Quest for the Card” ( here the best 125 players who can secure the card for the next season are determined ).

From 2013, the tournament will again mark the end of the PGA Tour season and the new season will start in October.

Game mode

Only the first 30 of the PGA TOUR money list (since 2007 the FedEx Cup rating) are eligible to play. There is therefore no cut and all participants play all four rounds.
