The Hong Kong Open is a golf tournament held on the Asian Tour . It was founded in 1959 and was also part of the European tour calendar from 2001 to 2015 . The Hong Kong Golf Association , Hong Kong PGA and Chinese PGA will receive an exemption that allows their members to participate in the tournament.

Since joining the European Tour, the tournament has always been held at the Hong Kong Golf Club in Sheung Shui .

The tournament is usually played towards the end of the year and fell into the following season of the European Tour until 2008. In 2009 it was decided to postpone the tournament to the calendar year, so that the Hong Kong Open were held twice this season. However, the 2013 tournament was again part of the 2014 season of the European Tour.

In 2008, Florida-based Hong Kong amateur Jason Hak became the youngest player to ever make the cut in a European Tour event. At 14 years and 304 days he beat Sergio García's record at the Turespana Open Mediterrania in 1995. The tournament winners include many famous golf stars, including Bernhard Langer , José María Olazábal , Kel Nagle , Greg Norman , Peter Thomson and Tom Watson , Pádraig Harrington , Colin Montgomerie and Ian Woosnam .
