Miguel Ángel Jiménez (born January 5, 1964 in Málaga ) is a Spanish professional golfer . Because of his extremely even style of play, his teammates also call him "The Mechanic".

Career

Jiménez started on the European Tour in 1988 and steadily improved over the next few seasons. In 1992 he won his first victory at the Piaget Belgian Open . In the course of his eventful career he had three periods of success. 1994 with the 5th place in the money list European Tour Order of Merit , then again in 1998 and 1999, both years Jiménez was 4th in the Order of Merit with four tournament victories including the highly endowed final tournament, the Volvo Masters and a 2nd place in the WGC -American Express Championship , a World Golf Championships event, as well as its Ryder Cup debut. And finally, after a few mediocre seasons, the Spaniard came in 2004 with a fourth place in the money list and four more tournament wins, most of them this year. Jiménez also kept his form in 2005 with wins at the Hong Kong Open and the Celtic Manor Wales Open . Further tournament victories followed in the 2008 and 2010 seasons.

Jiménez was seriously injured over the Christmas holidays of 2012. The professional golfer broke his shin in a skiing accident in the Spanish Sierra Nevada and had to take a break for several months. In May 2013 he played his 600th tournament on the European Tour at the BMW PGA Championship .

He celebrated his debut at the Champions Tour in April 2014 with a tournament victory.

In May 2014 he won the Open de España and is still the oldest winner (50 years, 133 days) on the European Tour, having set this record earlier (2012 and 2013).

In his private life Jiménez loves fast cars, especially Ferraris, Rioja red wine and fine cigars, although sometimes, just like Darren Clarke , he smokes one during the round. He has two sons from his marriage to Montserrat Bravo Ramírez in 1991. He has been married to the Austrian Susanne Styblo since May 2014. The couple now have their joint residence in Vienna .
