Titus Vinius
Titus Vinius (* 21/22; † January 15, 69 in Rome ) was a Roman politician and senator in the 1st century AD.
As a military tribune , Vinius is said to have committed adultery in Pannonia around 39 with Cornelia , the wife of the governor Gaius Calvisius Sabinus . Nevertheless he obtained the bursary , praetur and a legionary command. In the favor of Emperor Claudius , Vinius became proconsul of the province of Gallia Narbonensis under Emperor Nero . When Vinius was later a legionary commander in Hispania Tarraconensis under the governor Galba , he advised him to be proclaimed emperor. Vinius moved to Rome with Galba in 68, where he exerted great influence on Galba. The Praetorian prefect Tigellinus was not killed by Vinius' intervention . Vinius stood in vain for the adoption of Othos by Galba and successfully for the appointment of Vitellius as governor of Germania.
In 69 Vinius became consul with Galba . The unexpected adoption of Lucius Calpurnius Piso Frugi Licinianus created an estrangement between Vinius and Galba. When Otho struck on January 15th, Vinius advised to stay on the Palatine Hill. Galba, however, went to the forum; there Galba and Vinius were killed.
