from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Werner Görts (born January 15, 1942 in Wuppertal ) is a former German football player . From 1965 to 1978 he made 391 games and 74 goals in the Bundesliga with the clubs Borussia Neunkirchen and Werder Bremen . He also scored 14 goals in the DFB Cup .

Career history

Beginning

At the age of 20, the talented winger Werner Görts made his debut at Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the Bundesliga West . In the 1962/63 round, the striker , who had emerged from the Cronenberger SC (district of Wuppertal), made 25 missions and scored five goals. National coach Sepp Herberger called him as part of a short course before the international match on December 23, 1962 in Karlsruhe against Switzerland for a test match on December 12 in Dortmund in the ranks of the national team against the junior team. He was also a member of the national team for the international match against Brazil on May 5, 1963 in Hamburg. But it was not brought into action.

Since Bayer 04 Leverkusen had not been nominated for the newly installed Bundesliga, he completed two rounds in the Regionalliga West from 1963. He represented Bayer in 44 games and scored 10 goals. On September 25, 1963 he wore the jersey of the DFB in the U23 selection in the game against Bulgaria in Karlsruhe.

The Saarland Bundesliga club Borussia Neunkirchen signed the winger for the 1965/66 season after the two rounds of the Regionalliga.

Bundesliga

In the Ellenfeldstadion he was confronted with the relegation battle and the qualities of the Bundesliga defenders. Coach Horst Buhtz , who had also gained experience as a player in Italy, used his newcomer in 28 games. The Bundesliga newcomer was only able to contribute one goal to the goals. With 32:82 goals, the Borussia were relegated at the end of the round. But Görts had aroused the interest of the master from 1965, Werder Bremen gave him a contract for the round 1966/67.

Again, the striker only played against relegation. Bremen only just held the class as 16th. Görts had played in 30 games and scored six goals. When coach Günter Brocker was replaced by Fritz Langner on September 9, 1967 after the unsuccessful start to the 1967/68 round , not only Werner Görts benefited, the entire team also improved significantly and played its way through the rest of the round front. With his 16 goals in 30 games, Görts made a significant contribution to the runner-up title that came out at the end of the round. At the side of Bernd Rupp and Ole Bjørnmose , he was the driving force on the offensive. His performance at the DFB was not without effect. He was called up by national coach Helmut Schön in the squad for the international match against France on September 27, 1967 in Berlin, but he was again not brought into action. As a right winger, however, he played on January 24, 1968 in Essen in a game of a DFB selection against Rot-Weiss Essen in a test match for the national team. Görts repeatedly knocked on the gate of the national team, but the outstanding class of competitors Reinhard Libuda , Jürgen Grabowski , Johannes Löhr and Sigfried Held blocked the way in his good years.

Even the sporty diet at Werder Bremen was not conducive to the dangerous winger's international career. The high of 1967/68 could no longer be maintained in the next few years, and the frequent coach changes did not contribute to an increase in the quality of the team. In the 1971/72 round, Werder used four trainers. The preparation was carried out by Robert Gebhardt , he was replaced for a month by the master trainer of 1965, Willi Multhaup . Then Josef Piontek took over the training from October 25, 1971 to May 7, 1972 , before Fritz Langner accompanied the final weeks. However, these measures did not contribute to an increase in the team's performance, and at Görts too, the constant changes in the sporting leadership and the associated new orientation in tactics and training processes could not improve performance.

graduation

Werner Görts ended his Bundesliga career with 21 appearances and one goal in the 1977/78 round. But even as a 36-year-old veteran, he was again confronted with a coach change at Werder. On January 2, 1978, Fred Schulz replaced the hapless Hans Tilkowski . When he reached 15th place, the class was retained and Werner Görts was able to resign as a player. In his long career, the man from Wuppertal (Cronenberg) only had to deal with a protracted knee injury and two cross breaks. His agility and speed enabled him mostly to avoid the toughest physical attacks of the opponents.

Professional background

Since 1973 Werner Görts has been working part-time again in his learned profession as a banker. He also ran a pool and lottery sales point together with his wife.
