Kurt Schulzke

Kurt Schulzke (born January 15, 1950 in Hamburg ; † December 23, 2017 in Neumünster ), artist name: Kusch , was a German painter , musician and author . He became known in particular for his celebrity portraits in Pop Art style and for numerous TV appearances with his music group Schulzke's Scandal Trupp . He was a co-founder and pioneer of the Hamburg scene .

Life

The son of a painter worked in the 1960s and 1970s under his pseudonym Kusch , formed from the first letters of his first and last name, as a cartoonist and illustrator . He also appeared as a pianist in the Hamburg scene in the 1970s and designed happenings in the trendy shops that were emerging at the time, such as Logo, Onkel Pö or Fabrik . In 1973, this resulted in his band Schulzke's Scandal Trupp, which performed numerous concerts and TV appearances throughout Germany. He portrayed many of his celebrity colleagues.

In 1984 Schulzke went on a world tour with his sailing boat and finally found a new home on Mallorca . He founded the Mallorca Blues Band there , ran his own music studio there and devoted himself mainly to portraiture .

Since 2002 Kurt Schulzke lived and worked in Northern Germany again.

The style of his pictures ranges from photorealism to abstract . Excursions into classical painting are also part of the interpretation of his Pop Art.

Northern lights north faces

In the traveling exhibition "Northern Lights - Northern Faces" Schulzke showed over 100 portraits of North German personalities. In 2004 Schulzke launched the “Nord Award”, which is presented in the form of a painting unveiling to personalities who symbolically represent the north through their life's work or extraordinary deeds.

Legends of the World

"Legends of the World" comprises a collection of paintings by the painter of public figures. This includes numerous commissioned paintings that have been created in recent years. Annual art print calendars “Legends of the World” have been published since 2008.
