Edna Staebler

Edna Staebler (born January 15, 1906 in Berlin , Ontario ; † September 12, 2006 in Waterloo , Ontario) was a Canadian writer who was best known for her regional cookbooks.

Staebler grew up where she was born. She received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto and a teaching license from the Ontario College of Education . She married in 1933 and divorced in 1962. She has written numerous articles for magazines and magazines such as Maclean’s , Chatelaine , Saturday Night , Reader's Digest , Star Weekly .

Her series of cookbooks Food That Really Schmecks , based on the local cuisine , made her famous.

In 1991 she received the Creative Non-fiction Prize, which is presented annually by Wilfrid Laurier University . In 1996 she received the Order of Canada .

Staebler died of a stroke at the age of 100.
