Anton Hänggi

Anton Hänggi (born January 15, 1917 in Nunningen ; † June 21, 1994 in Freiburg im Üechtland ) was a Roman Catholic bishop in the diocese of Basel .

Life

The farmer's son studied in the seminary of Lucerne and Rome before July 2, 1941 Bishop Francis von Streng the ordination received. After a Vicariate in Brugg , he studied from 1944 again at the University of Friborg (Switzerland) and was there in 1947 as a doctor of theology doctorate . From 1954 to 1956 he studied liturgical science in Rome and Trier and taught this subject from 1961 as a professor in Freiburg, Switzerland . He was involved as a theological expert at the Second Vatican Council .

On December 4, 1967, Anton Hänggi was elected bishop. After confirmation by Pope Paul VI. his predecessor in office, Franziskus von Streng , donated his episcopal ordination on February 11, 1968 . Bishop Hänggi was chairman of the Swiss Bishops' Conference (SBK) from 1976 to 1977 .

On June 21, 1982 Anton Hänggi resigned from his position. In 1984 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Basel and in 1985 from the Pontifical University of Sant'Anselmo in Rome.
