Eugène Lachat
Aimable Jean Claude Eugène Lachat (born October 14, 1819 on the Montavon farm in the village of Réclère in the canton of Jura ; † November 1, 1886 in Balerna , canton of Ticino ) was a Roman Catholic bishop of Basel, apostolic administrator of the canton of Ticino and titular archbishop of Tamiathis .
Life
Eugène Lachat entered the Order of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood at the age of 17 and was ordained a priest on September 24, 1842 .
After he was elected Bishop of Basel on February 26, 1863, Pope Pius IX confirmed . the election on October 26th of the same year. He was ordained bishop on November 30, 1863 by the then Bishop of Strasbourg, Andreas Räss , in the Solothurn Cathedral .
In the course of the Kulturkampf on January 29, 1873, Lachat was deposed from his office by the diocesan estates of Aargau , Solothurn , Bern , Basel-Landschaft and Thurgau , while Lucerne and Zug continued to regard him as the legitimate bishop.
