Angelo Jelmini

Angelo Giuseppe Jelmini (born November 3, 1893 in Muralto , † June 24, 1968 in Lugano ) was a Swiss Roman Catholic bishop .

Life

He attended the boys' seminary in Pollegio , then the seminary in Lugano. On June 28, 1917 he was ordained a priest and became a pastor in Bodio , from 1927 he was director of the Oratorio maschile in Lugano. On December 16, 1935 he was appointed by Pope Pius XI. Appointed titular bishop of Thermae Basilicae and apostolic administrator in the diocese of Lugano , Canton Ticino .

The Apostolic Nuncio in Switzerland, Archbishop Filippo Bernardini , donated him episcopal ordination on February 2, 1936 ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Sitten , Viktor Bieler , and the Bishop of Chur , Laurenz Matthias Vincenz . In the Second World War, after the armistice between Italy and the Allies in 1943, he campaigned for aid specifically to Italian and Polish refugees. Bishop Jelmini was chairman of the Swiss Bishops' Conference (SBK) from 1952 to 1967 .

Angelo Giuseppe Jelmini attended all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council .

He was buried in the crypt of the Basilica del Sacro Cuore in Lugano Molino Nuovo .
