Martin Schmitt (musician)
Martin Schmitt (born January 15, 1968 in Munich ) is a German pianist, singer, entertainer, composer and lyricist.
life and career
Schmitt began singing and playing piano and tuba at the age of 13. He then appeared in the Munich scene as a blues and boogie woogie pianist and had appearances at festivals. He plays a mixture of soul, jazz and blues. Schmitt appeared mainly as an interpreter of songs by Ray Charles , Billy Joel or Randy Newman . Comedy is part of his program. He was also the artistic director of piano festivals and is, among other things, the winner of the Tassilo Prize of the Süddeutsche Zeitung. He was on stage with Chuck Berry , Jerry Lee Lewis , Stefan Gwildis , Paul Carrack , Helge Schneider , Monika Gruber , Axel Zwingenberger , Victoria Tolstoy , Vince Weber . Schmitt composed two tracks for the ARD thriller “In the Visier des Böse” with Klaus-Maria Brandauer . Further titles were published in the "Martin Schmitt Songbook".
In 20 years on the stage he has published CDs and a DVD documentation of his repertoire, recorded in May 2006 in the Munich Philharmonic. In 2007 Schmitt presented a program with its own German-language titles, which have their roots in the genres of singer / songwriter, soul , jazz and rhythm and blues . The show was broadcast by Bavarian TV, SWR , 3sat , BR-alpha and NDR TV . In May 2008, the BR produced the television program "The awarding of the 10th Bavarian Cabaret Prize", in which Schmitt performed in a duet with Monika Gruber , among other things . In April 2016 he celebrated his 30th stage anniversary with the Spider Murphy Gang, Claudia Koreck, Bodo Wartke and Joja Wendt. In December 2017 he won the “Böblinger Mechthild” comedy award.
