Vince Weber

Vince Weber (* 26. October 1953 in Hamburg , † 23. February 2020 ) was a German blues and boogie - pianist .

Career

Weber received his first piano lessons at the age of 10. His sister introduced him to records from Lightnin 'Hopkins , Champion Jack Dupree , Taj Mahal and many other blues and boogie greats. At the age of 16 he played in various Hamburg bars in the harbor. This resulted in a chance meeting with Otto Waalkes and Weber appeared in his opening act. In 1976 Vince Weber received the German record award for his album The Boogie Man on the label of Waalkes Rüssl-Räckords. The LP was partially recorded in the factory , where he performed on the last Friday of the month for 14 years from 1976.

This and the following five albums were produced by Thomas Kukuck in the Rüssl studio.

In 1978 and 1979 Weber made two trips to the USA - "Back to the Roots" as he said - and met many good people there and used many pianos. In 1980 Weber became editor and presenter at NDR with the program Blues on Tuesday . In the meantime he made further trips to the USA to Chicago, LA and San Francisco.

Weber played at festivals and club gigs with Big Joe Williams , Abi Wallenstein , Henry Heggen , Axel Zwingenberger , Jay McShann , James Booker , Chuck Berry , Michael Pewny and Champion Jack Dupree, among others .

Since August 8, 1988, he has organized the international festival The Hamburg Boogie Woogie Connection together with Axel Zwingenberger .

Due to illness, Vince Weber had to limit his stage activities in his last years. He died in February 2020 after a long illness.
