Joseph Aloysius Red Dunn (born June 21, 1901 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin , † January 15, 1957 , ibid) was an American American football player . He played in the National Football League (NFL), including the Green Bay Packers .

Player career

College career

Red Dunn attended high school in his hometown and then studied from 1921 at the Marquette University College of Business . For the team from Milwaukee , the Marquette Golden Avalanche , he played as quarterback football . In this role he led his team in 1923 and 1924 to 17 wins in one defeat. In 1923 he was elected to the All American and in the league selection. In the same year he played against the Boston College team with a broken arm . His team won the game 7-6.

Professional career

Red Dunn joined the Milwaukee Badgers in 1924 . He got playing time there as a blocking back and as a kicker . The following year he moved to the Chicago Cardinals . The team trained by Norm Barry around the later member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Paddy Driscoll managed to play eleven of 14 games victoriously this season and thus won the NFL championship . Dunn contributed ten extra points to the success of the Cardinals . After another unsuccessful season with the team from Chicago , he moved to the Green Bay Packers supervised by Curly Lambeau .

Lambeau succeeded his team with the commitment of other top players, such as John McNally or Arnie Herber , to lead to the top of the NFL. The team from Green Bay won the NFL championship in 1929 with 12 wins from 13 games . With eleven extra points, he also contributed to the success of his team this season. The second title win in a row followed in 1930 . The team had managed to win ten out of 14 games. Red Dunn scored 14 extra points this game round. The 1931 season was also successful for the Packers. After twelve wins in two draws, Dunn was able to secure the third title with his team with 15 own extra points. Red Dunn ended his career after this game round.

Coaching career

Red Dunn moved back to Marquette University after his professional career and was assistant coach of the Golden Avalanche until 1940 .

Off the field

Joseph Dunn had successfully completed his business studies at Marquette University in 1924. In addition to his football career, he worked as an insurance agent for a travel insurance company for over 30 years. After his playing days, he also worked as a radio host and commented on football games on the radio. Red Dunn was married and had a son. He found his final resting place in the city of his birth in the Holy Cross Cemetery and Mausoleum .

Honors

Red Dunn has been voted All-Pro three times . He is a member of the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame and the Hall of Fame of his college , as well as the Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame .
