Herbert Lucy (born November 20, 1929 , † January 15, 1994 ) was a German general works council chairman of Daimler-Benz AG .

Life

Herbert Lucy completed an apprenticeship as a toolmaker in the Mannheim plant of the automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz from 1944 to 1947 . From 1947 to 1958 he worked at Daimler-Benz in his profession. In 1958 he became an exempt member of the works council . In 1964 he was promoted to chairman of the works council at the Mannheim plant, although he belonged to the SPD and was therefore not as radical on the left as his predecessors. The following year he became a member of the supervisory board at Daimler-Benz. As a result of Ludwig Ratzel's election as the new Lord Mayor of Mannheim in July 1972, Lucy was his successor as chairman of the Mannheim SPD district association. Another function was taken over the following year, when Karl Hauff resigned as Chairman of the Daimler General Works Council on October 12, 1973. The larger work council task took its toll, so that Lucy had to resign from the SPD district chair in spring 1976. In 1978 he became deputy chairman of the supervisory board.

He also held honorary positions in IG Metall , once as a member of the advisory board and then as a member of the local administration. Although he was no longer a district chairman of the SPD, he held a seat in the city council . He was strongly committed to Gerhard Widder , whom he helped to become the mayor of Mannheim in 1983, which turned out to be a stroke of luck for the city and was honored by the citizens with a long term of office. In 1989, in turn, the Social Democrats honored Lucy's achievements by electing him as group leader .

On November 20, 1989, Karl Feuerstein took over the chairmanship of the Daimler General Works Council, as Lucy retired for health reasons. In May 1990 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg . In the spring of 1993, Peter Kurz replaced the seriously ill Herbert Lucy at his own request at the head of the SPD parliamentary group. Lucy succumbed to his condition on January 15, 1994.

In January 1994, after prior consultation with Daimler-Benz AG, the municipal council decided to rename the Carl-Benz-Halle in Alsenweg (at the Alten Waldhof Stadium), which was built in 1985/1986 with a 4.5 million mark donation from Daimler-Benz ). With the renaming to Herbert-Lucy-Halle, the city of Mannheim paid tribute to the local politician for his social work and in particular for making possible the construction of sports facilities, which was on the brink at the time.
